A tragic incident occurred at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, where a correctional officer, Kabiru Abubakar, allegedly killed his colleague, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, following a dispute over food.
According to reports, Kabiru ate Chiroma's lunch, claiming that Chiroma sometimes didn't eat his food. This led to a heated argument and physical altercation, resulting in Chiroma's death.
Ningi Local Government Chairman, Hon. Nasiru Zakarai, confirmed the incident, stating that it was sparked by a food dispute. The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Aminu Ahmed, also verified the incident, noting that it occurred outside the facility.
The suspect, Kabiru Abubakar, has been taken into police custody, while Chiroma's body has been handed over to his family for burial.
This unfortunate event highlights the growing concerns about hunger and desperation in Nigeria, with many citizens struggling to access basic necessities like food.
