Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been arraigned for allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Routh was taken into custody after hiding in bushes and pointing a semiautomatic rifle with a scope at Trump, who was about 400 yards away, according to officials ¹. He has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Court records reveal over 100 criminal counts filed against Routh in North Carolina . Routh has expressed support for Ukraine against Russia and wrote a book urging Iran to kill the former president.

Online, Routh portrayed himself as a philanthropist building housing for homeless people in Hawaii. However, his writings also reveal a complex and concerning history, including advocating for violence against Trump.

In a separate incident, Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service counter sniper team. The FBI is investigating the motive behind the attack.
