"Tertiary Education Gets Boost as Kebbi Gov Approves N175.5m"

Birnin Kebbi, June 19, 2025 – The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved and released a total of N175.5 million for the development of tertiary education in the state. This move is part of the governor's continued efforts to promote tertiary education in the state.

According to a press statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, the governor approved the upgrading of the monthly cash allocation of four state tertiary institutions to N40 million. Each of the institutions will now receive N10 million monthly, up from their previous allocations. The beneficiary institutions include Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; College of Health Science and Technology, Jega; College of Advance and Legal Studies, Yauri; and Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari.

Previously, these institutions received N2 million, N1.5 million, N5 million, and N2 million, respectively. The governor's approval brings a significant increase in funding to support the institutions' activities.

In addition to the upgraded monthly allocation, the governor also approved N35,715,000 as an intervention to regularize 556 students of the Departments of Community Health, Environmental Health, and Health Education and Promotion of the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega, who were un-indexed in the 2023/2024 academic session.

Furthermore, the governor approved N59,775,500 for the NBTE accreditation of seven courses offered by the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega. These courses include ND Community Health, ND Environmental Health, ND Health Information Management, ND Nutrition and Dietetics, ND Public Health, ND Medical Laboratory, and ND Pharmacy Technician.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, stated that the governor's investment in the higher education sector is critical to creating and developing skills and expertise for teaching, research, innovation, and invention. "Financing tertiary institutions is a major concern of any serious government," he said.

Tunga expressed the ministry's gratitude to the governor for his support and appealed to the indigenes of Kebbi State to continue praying for the success of the administration. "It's crystal clear that the efforts of the Executive Governor shall go into the annals of history towards promoting academic and moral excellence in the tertiary education sector," he added
