The Bauchi State Government has given its approval for the postponement of the highly anticipated 2025 Sallah Durbar Festival, as requested by the Bauchi Emirate Council's Committee on Sallah Durbar. This decision was made public through a press statement issued on Friday by Mukhtar Gidado, the media aide to the Bauchi State Governor.
According to Gidado, the decision to postpone the festival was an internal resolution made by the Emirate Council without prior consultation with the state government. The Sallah Durbar Festival is a significant part of Bauchi's rich cultural heritage, promoting unity, history, and identity among the people of Bauchi and beyond.
The government had made extensive security and logistical preparations for the festival, recognizing its importance. However, out of respect for the traditional institution and its leadership, Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed reluctantly approved the Emirate Council's request for postponement.
While the government regrets the lack of prior engagement on this major decision, it remains committed to working harmoniously with the Emirate Council to preserve Bauchi's cherished traditions. The government also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the last-minute postponement and assured that necessary steps will be taken to prevent such abrupt changes in the future.
"Despite this development, His Excellency extends his heartfelt Sallah greetings to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, the Bauchi Emirate Council, and the entire people of Bauchi State," the statement concluded. "The government wishes all a joyous and peaceful Sallah celebration in advance."
