The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ilorin Branch has condemned the alleged human rights violations of its Human Rights Committee members by overzealous officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command. The Executive Council of the NBA Ilorin Branch has resolved to take up the matter and ensure that the officers involved are brought to book, serving as a deterrent to other security agents.
According to reports, on November 8, 2024, more than 20 senior officers of the NSCDC, led by the State Commandant, stormed the office of the chairman. The Commandant condemned the actions of his men, promising to identify and punish them accordingly. He requested that the chairman allow him to handle the matter internally.
The NBA Ilorin Branch has emphasized its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, the rule of law, and good governance in Nigeria ¹. The branch has a history of advocating for victims of human rights abuses and has established a Human Rights Committee to address such issues.
