The Sokoto State Government has applauded the performance of the AGILE project team for its contributions to improving access to quality education for adolescent girls in the state.
The commendation was made during a 3-day annual review workshop held from July 15 to 17 at SOUL Care Garden Hotel, Sokoto.
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ladan Ala, praised the project team for its commitment and results on the ground.
“I want to commend the AGILE team, particularly the Team Lead, Dr. Mansur, for providing strong leadership,” Ala said.  “With a competent team behind him, AGILE has delivered excellently. I have personally visited rural communities for monitoring, and the projects I saw are impressive and worthy of commendation.”
Stakeholders gathered to evaluate two years of AGILE implementation in Sokoto and to chart a new course for better delivery in the coming years.
The AGILE project, supported by the World Bank, is being implemented in 23 states across Nigeria. In Sokoto, it targets girls between the ages of 10 and 20.
Representing the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sunusi Aliyu Binji, highlighted the state government’s investment in education.
“We must appreciate the Governor for his full support to education development,” Binji said.  “He is ensuring our daughters get quality education to compete with any child anywhere. He provides free school buses, pays for fuel, gives monthly running grants to principals, and supplies teaching and learning materials to strengthen schools in Sokoto.”
Binji also recognized the role of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, saying his advice and philanthropic support have helped advance education in the state.
“This meeting is important because it allows us to review AGILE’s work and correct any shortcomings where necessary,” he added.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Lead for AGILE in Sokoto, Muhammad Mainasara Usman, said the review was necessary to assess progress and challenges.
“AGILE has been active in Sokoto for two years,” Usman said.  “Within this period, we have constructed boreholes, built toilet facilities, and renovated many classrooms in schools across the state.”
He noted that the workshop provides an opportunity for stakeholders to identify gaps and propose solutions for improved implementation.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Buhari, said stakeholder engagement remains key to the project’s success.
“This project belongs to the people,” Buhari said.  “We are here to discuss the challenges we have faced and to get your advice so that implementation continues according to plan. Without proper planning, there will be complaints. Those complaints must be heard and addressed.  “We also want to update you so you know you have a stake and a role in how this project is run. It is not something we do in isolation.”
Other speakers at the workshop included Hajiya Rabi Gwadabawa, Director of Communication and Mobilization, SUBEB, and Hajiya Aisha of the Sokoto State Teachers Service Board.
Officials said the review will help strengthen collaboration between government, communities and development partners to sustain gains recorded under AGILE in Sokoto.
