Kebbi CAN Pray For Tinubu, Idris; Governor Pledges Godly, Fair Administration
By Umar Faruk
The Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has convened a special prayer meeting in intercession for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Nasir Idris, and for the peace of Kebbi State and the nation.
The gathering was held on Saturday at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi. Christian leaders and delegates from across the 21 local government areas of the state were in attendance.
Presiding over the session, State CAN Chairman Bishop Ayuba Kanta Yafi commended the governor for pursuing a government that embraces all citizens.
“We are grateful for the practical and inclusive leadership style of Governor Nasir Idris,” Bishop Yafi said.
“The Christian community recognizes your dedication to religious harmony, freedom of worship and peaceful living in Kebbi,” he added.

Reverends Nathaniel Kangiwa and Ochimana Joshua also led separate prayers during the service.
According to Bishop Yafi, the occasion marked a milestone. He said it was the first time in the history of Kebbi State that Christians were formally assembled for a prayer session focused solely on leaders at state and national levels.
“This meeting is historic. It is the first time Christians in Kebbi have been specially gathered and invited to offer prayers for our leaders,” he stated.
The CAN chairman outlined several gestures extended to the Christian community by the Idris administration.

These include the allocation of land and financial assistance for a Christian cemetery, support for the completion of the CAN Secretariat, assistance during Christian celebrations, and various empowerment initiatives.
Bishop Yafi also applauded the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Architect Sani Aliyu, describing him as a unifying figure.
“Architect Sani Aliyu has served as a bridge builder between faiths. He has consistently worked to resolve religious issues and to promote harmony among the people,” the CAN leader noted.
He further acknowledged the governor’s achievements in infrastructure and security, citing the rehabilitation of the Koko-Zuru road, improvements in security, and investments in education, health and other critical sectors.
“The repairs on the Koko-Zuru road have significantly reduced travel time to that area. We appreciate your efforts in tackling challenges affecting communities statewide,” Bishop Yafi said.
He, however, called on the government to maintain dialogue with the Christian community and to give attention to issues relating to religious education, places of worship, and representation.
In his response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed appreciation to CAN for the prayers and for their backing of his administration and the President.
He described the timing of the prayers as timely and expressed hope for positive results.

“Our administration remains committed to advancing development across Kebbi. We will keep executing projects after consultations with communities and stakeholders because our goal is to uplift the living standards of our people,” Governor Idris said.
The governor pointed to ongoing work in education, healthcare and rural roads as proof of his administration’s focus on citizens’ welfare.
He also stressed security as a key priority and announced a recent federal deployment.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 1,000 additional soldiers to Kebbi. They have been deployed to strategic areas across the state,” he disclosed.
Governor Idris thanked the President for federal support, especially in security and road infrastructure including the Koko-Besse road project.
“Kebbi State has every reason to support Mr. President because you have delivered what previous administrations did not,” he said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to uphold fairness, peace, inclusiveness and equal treatment for all citizens irrespective of religion or ethnic background.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Architect Sani Aliyu, commended CAN for its contribution to religious harmony in the state.
He also clarified the purpose of the proposed Hisbah Law.
“The Hisbah Law is not intended to force anyone to accept Islam. Its aim is to encourage mutual respect, discipline and peaceful coexistence within the provisions of the law,” Architect Aliyu explained.
He assured that the governor would review the concerns raised by CAN and address them step by step.
The event also featured goodwill messages. CAN presented an award to Governor Idris in recognition of his “unwavering commitment to religious tolerance, freedom of worship and inclusiveness.”
The association pledged to sustain prayers and support for the success of the government and for unity in Kebbi State.
