The flag-off ceremonies were held on Sunday in the benefiting communities in the presence of community leaders, stakeholders and government officials. The Dukku-Tarasa road, which is two kilometres long, has a completion timeline of six months, while the 32 - kilometre Birnin Lafiya- Gulma - Natsini road is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Speaking at the events, Governor Idris said the road projects were in fulfilment of his campaign promises and part of his administration's drive to improve rural connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
He said his government was committed to executing projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people, with special attention to rural communities. "As promised, we will continue to execute projects that have a direct impact on the lives of our people," the governor said. He explained that the poor condition of the roads had subjected residents to serious transportation difficulties, hence the decision to construct them.
"In line with the importance we attach to our rural communities, I am using this opportunity to officially flag off the construction of the road linking Birnin Lafiya to Gulma and Natsini," Idris said."The people of this area have been experiencing difficulties due to the poor condition of the road. We have, therefore, decided to construct it to ease transportation and improve the lives of the people," he added. "By the grace of God, the construction of this road will commence as we fulfil our commitment to improving infrastructure in our rural communities," the governor further said.
He noted that the improved road network would facilitate movement of people and goods, ease transportation of farm produce and boost commercial activities among neighbouring communities. Residents of the benefiting communities commended the governor for the intervention, expressing optimism that the projects would ease transportation challenges and improve their livelihoods.
They said the completion of the roads would enhance access to essential services and create better opportunities for farmers, traders and other residents. The projects, according to the administration, demonstrate its resolve to extend infrastructure development beyond urban centres and improve connectivity across Kebbi State.
