BIRNIN KEBBI - The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kebbi Sector Command has impounded 39 vehicles in a special enforcement drive aimed at curbing traffic violations across the state.
Sector Commander, Mrs. Rukayya Zakaria, disclosed this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. She said the exercise commenced on July 20 and is focused on infractions that put road users at risk.
“We have arrested 39 vehicles for various traffic offences since the operation started,” Mrs. Zakaria stated. “Our officers are on full deployment for this special intervention, and the operation will run until Wednesday, July 22,” she added.
According to her, the operation is being carried out under two campaigns tagged “Daidaita Lodi” and “Lodi Limit.” She noted that the patrols are holding simultaneously across the command’s seven operational units in the state.
“The essence of this enforcement is to ensure motorists comply with road safety rules and to reduce the rate of crashes on our highways,” the sector commander said.
Mrs. Zakaria further explained that the operation is being executed in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
She listed the offences being targeted to include overloading, mixed loading of passengers and goods, route violations, defective tyres, and other hazardous vehicle conditions.
“The patrol is a routine national exercise directed by FRSC Headquarters. It can be conducted weekly, monthly, or quarterly depending on the need,” she explained.
“Our goal is to reinforce compliance, save lives, and make our roads safer for everyone,” she added.
The FRSC boss appealed to drivers and transport operators to desist from overloading, speeding, and plying unauthorized routes.
“Motorists must ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and adhere strictly to traffic regulations. Safety on our roads is a collective responsibility,” Mrs. Zakaria urged.
