By Umar Faruk Nigerian Army troops have intercepted suspected bandits who attacked construction workers in Tsatsunbe village, Southern Kebbi, rescuing all workers and seizing three motorcycles abandoned during the escape.
The attack was reported on Friday, August 14, 2026, after the military received intelligence of a planned raid on the site.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the spokesman for 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said soldiers were deployed immediately.
Lt. Col. Osoba explained that troops engaged the attackers on arrival. “On August 14, 2026, acting on credible intelligence regarding a bandit attack on construction workers in Tsatsunbe, Southern Kebbi, troops launched a rapid response and engaged the criminals,” he said.
He stated that superior firepower compelled the assailants to withdraw. “The bandits met stiff resistance. They were overpowered and fled in disarray,” he said.
During a post-operation sweep, the troops recovered items left behind by the attackers. “In the course of exploiting the area, three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing bandits were recovered,” he added.
The Army spokesman also said the workers who hid in nearby bushes were located and taken to safety.
“The construction workers sought refuge in the bush. Troops rescued them safely and they have returned to their base,” he stated.
According to the military, the operation was conducted under Operation Clean Sweep IV, which targets the protection of communities, workers and key infrastructure in the region.
Lt. Col. Osoba said security forces have intensified patrols in Tsatsunbe and surrounding areas to forestall further attacks.
