The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has declared that Kebbi State remains solidly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
By Umar Faruk
Yari made the declaration on Monday in Birnin Kebbi when he led members of the PCC on a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other APC stakeholders.
He lauded the Governor and APC leaders in the state for their commitment towards mobilizing support for the party, expressing optimism that their collective efforts would guarantee victory for President Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.
"We are leading the campaign for the president's re-election and other candidates of our party," Yari said. "We appreciate you for bringing the emirs together under one umbrella at the Emir of Gwandu's palace," he said. "We recognise what you are doing as governors and your contributions towards ensuring victory for our party in 2027," he added.
Yari stated that the campaign council would collaborate with all individuals and groups who are committed to the re-election of President Tinubu, irrespective of their positions, in order to achieve the party's objectives. He expressed confidence in the electoral fortunes of the APC in Kebbi State, citing the massive support witnessed during his visit.
Speaking on security, Yari admitted that the country was facing security challenges, but noted that the Tinubu administration was making concerted efforts to address them. He recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite being a retired army general, made efforts to tackle insecurity but could not completely eliminate it during his tenure.
"If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general?" Yari queried. "Nevertheless, the president has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country," he said.
He called on Nigerians to be God-fearing and to complement government efforts, stressing that tackling insecurity requires collective responsibility. On the economy, Yari said the current hardship is not peculiar to Nigeria, noting that inflation is declining and the price of fertilizer has reduced.
He disclosed that the Federal Government has been implementing interventions to cushion the effects of the economic challenges, including cash transfers to vulnerable households. According to him, the interventions are aimed at strengthening the economy and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Yari added that every government in the world faces challenges, citing the United States and Saudi Arabia as examples of countries still grappling with national issues. He therefore urged Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of the Tinubu administration and support its development agenda. Responding, Governor Nasir Idris described the visit as a welcome development and expressed delight over the convergence of APC leaders and traditional rulers to receive the delegation.
He said the decision of the emirs to gather at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu was to demonstrate solidarity and to welcome the PCC team. Idris noted that Kebbi State has benefited from several federal government projects under the Tinubu administration, a development which he said has further strengthened support for the President in the state.
"We have no reason not to support the president. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Ambassador Saidu Dakingari," Idris said. "You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC, and we are for President Tinubu," he declared.
The governor expressed confidence that Kebbi State will continue to stand firmly with the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
